Dia De Los Muertos 2021 @ ALAC
first Friday November 5
We celebrate and promote the Latino presence in Arizona through the Arts, Education and Advocacy.
Community arts and cultural development is a community-based arts practice and can engage any art form. At ALAC there are many variations of how we engage community arts and cultural development. As exhibitions, events and internships are planned, developed and shared, our intention of celebrating, education and promoting the rich layers of Latino arts and culture is always present and foremost in our approach. What is at the core of our practice, is the collaboration between professional artists and communities to create art as expression, representation and stories of individual stories and shared community traditions.
Now let's roll
Engaging with art is essential to the human experience. Almost as soon as motor skills are developed, children communicate through artistic expression. The arts challenge us with different points of view, compel us to empathize with others. At ALAC we work with schools and community groups to enhance and bridge the gap in arts related education and programming.
Every artistic achievement, from a pencil sketch to an original song to a slam poetry competition is vital, because Art is the most shared human form of expression and communication. In a world that can be mystifying, turbulent, and unfathomable Art is the way that we always have, and always will, strive to comprehend and express our existence. Investment in the Arts produces a return that is immeasurable. The very skills and attributes that we strive to see in our friends, our children, our bosses and peers, these are the talents that the Arts elevate.
Furthermore, Arts advocacy must carry the insights into what has come to be and what must be preserved as our shared cultural heritage.
